In close proximity to Haghpat there is the amazing Sanahin Monastery - a real miracle of the Lori region. It was built in the second half of the 10th century, during the reign of Ashot III. At first, Sanahin consisted of only two churches: the Holy Mother of God and Amenaprkich. Subsequently, additional premises were erected to support the life of the monastery. Initially, there was a narrow passage between the churches, but then the architects realized that in the event of an earthquake, both churches could be destroyed.Sanahin is included in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List, which confirms its historical and architectural value.
